Ich habe vor drei Jahren für fast 4000 Euro (!!.) bei einem Getriebespezialisten (Motoren Staab in Neustadt Weinstrasse) mein LR-Getriebe (das mit dem abgeknickten Schalthebel) neu lagern und abdichten lassen - mit dem Effekt, dass es kurzfristig vielleicht minimal leiser lief, inzwischen jedoch wie immer laut und vorallem: genauso undicht wie zuvor (auch bei kurzen Strecken ein Ölfleck unterm Auto).
Ist das nun mal bei den Landrover-Getrieben so? Nicht dicht zu bekommen? Ist das ZF-Getriebe genauso grobshlächtig in den Laufgeräuschen und ähnich undicht? Und vorallem: wären denn beide Getriebe austauschbar, d.h. ohne z.B. Glocken-Umbau tauschbar? Gibt es Erfahrungen?
Mein PS 10 ist Baujahr 05/2005 und ist ca. 100tkm gefahren. Leider ist das an dem ansonsten "gesunden" Wohnmobil ein echter Minuspunkt.
Ausser einem leichten Rupfen beim Hochschalten vom 2. in den 3. Gang macht das Getriebe alles, was es soll. Leider eben nur noch ein bisschen mehr: Lärm und Ölen.

As I think you are aware, there are two types of transmission system and associated components fitted to the PS10: first there was the LT85 (actually, there was two slightly different installations of this, the first with a straight lever and the second with a bent lever) and after that there was the ZF transmission (with a straight lever).

When the type of gearbox was changed on the production line, there were also changes to other components, including the transfer case, parking brake assembly, speedometer components and cable. Consequently, whilst not impossible, it's not trivial to swap the type of gearbox, because of the implications on the other components. If you were determined to do this, it would be better to try to find a complete transmission system, including transfer case, parking brake, etc.... But this is very difficult to find for the ZF. In any case, I'm not sure it would provide you with a perfect solution.

Please also note that the gear ratios inside the LT85 and ZF gearboxes are different and, I think, (although I have not confirmed this) that there might be some gearing and component differences in the corresponding transfer case. The consequence of this is that there is a different relationship between engine speed and road speed, for each of the two types of transmission. Aside from all of the above, there are positive and negative qualities for each of the LT85 and ZF gearboxes - there is not one that is better than the other, they are just different with different types of problems!

About your rebuild, €4,000 is a lot of money!! I could have supplied a brand new replacement Santana LT85 gearbox for less! But no so the ZF gearbox - it is much more expensive.

But it's also important to say that oil leaks are synonymous with this type of vehicle - for example, Land Rovers almost always have oil leaks. The transmission systems are quite crude and they need regular maintenance, including oil seals replacing.

Also, check to ensure that your gearbox breather system is clear - if it is not clear then there will be nowhere for the internal pressure to escape and this can manifest itself as an oil leak as the excess pressure tries to escape past the oil seals.

HI John, thanks a lot. To summarize: try to make the best out of the given situation.
I will check the breather system, that is an important advice.
Apart from that, I will see, which sealings can be renewed without disassembling half of the car...
