I've had the flu and have been feeling miserable for a couple of weeks. Today I really needed a ride. The little group I ride with decided to ride out to Tumbledown Bay in the Port Underwood area. I hadn't been there before, so I was looking forward to it.

The gorse is flowering, it's a nuisance, but it does look nice when it flowers.

The water was nice and calm.

The views were nice

Tumbledown Bay is a neat spot, the water is crystall clear

We had to go around a locked gate to get to the top of the hill.

One guy from our group has taken his bike down here before, apparently it's really steep further down and you just have to ride it out. He is much braver than the rest of us.

This guy here lost his pig hunting party. He was really hot from running around. We met him twice.

Since he's wearing a transmitter, they should be able to find him again.

Picton is just down there around the corner.

The Port Underwood area has a nice feel to it.

I hope this is still of interest.

So here we go again, looks like I am the only one keeping the little corner of the forum going :-).

A few pictures from yesterday's ride. Northbank Rd up to the Goulter river, for those of you who want to look it up and on the way back Barnett Rd, Kiwi Rd and Onamalutu Rd. 4 hours well spent.

Those gates are a pain.

and back home again :-)

We have a busy riding schedule ahead of us, so little time so many roads.

Time for another installment. Today we went down the Leatham River valley. It's only 60km down the road. There are a couple of nice huts back there and road further back is a nice mixture of gravely rock, big potholes and muddy ruts. The river was relatively low, so we had no trouble with the water crossings as far as we went. Being the weekend it was a little bit busy and two 4x4 came the other way.

Short but sweet.

Just in case you've been waiting patiently. There'll be more bike pics coming soon, but here are some from our drive out to French Pass. It's a must see if you happen to be in the area. French Pass is part of the Marlborough Sounds.

The weather was not the best, but the scenery speaks for itself. I might a add a few more pictures from the Molesworth tomorrow.

Ok, time for a few more. This was the Rainbow - Molesworth loop, including the Sedgemere- Severn shortcut. Easy enough to Google, but for us it was an afternoon's ride. The weather was hotter than expected, so we kept shedding layers. Here are a bunch of photos, happy to answer questions, if you have them.

The Rainbow is not suitable for cars as you need a bit of ground clearance to get through. There were several water crossings on the trip, not too deep, but very Rocky. Thankfully, I am getting better at it and went through all of them, without stopping or putting my feet down. I was quite chuffed about this.

All up a bit over 300km and about 180 of that on gravel. Hope you've enjoyed the photos.

I've been a bit lazy updating this thread. However, here are a few pictures from this summer. The first lot is from the Golden Bay area.

I guess that's more than enough to look at. Hope some of you will enjoy it as well.

More than enough? I can never get enough of that beautiful country. Travelled both islands with a backpack for several months.

It's been a while. I didn't get as much riding done as I would have liked. However, I finally managed to ride the Porika track and had a bit of fun exploring the Sounds.

This bit was the steepest part of the Porika track. The relative large rocks on loose soil can be a problem. The guy with the panniers had the work cut out for him.

You turn left into Howard Vally a few ks after St Arnaud and you come out at lake Rotoroa.

Good ride, though

A couple of days ago I went out to Titirangi Bay. What a need place. Even the ride along Kenepuru Sound was nice.

As an ex Aucklander I like my Latte.

Some fast gravel to get there.

The bay from above

On the way back a bit of exploring this hills behind Havelock

I should have uploaded some more pictures, there were some better ones. However, we're about to leave for a few days riding so I am sure I'll have some more soon.
