Verfasst am: 03.12.2006 19:21:35 Titel: Different stages of build a Nissan. |
|
|
I thought I would try to make a little something on how my nissan was built, I have done a couple major things to it. First I did a trailmaster lift with a set-up. Then I did the long-arm mod that few pathys have over here.
This is the set-up, I dont have many pics of it because there is a pending deal to put this into production. This mod can only be done with a trailmaster or equivelent drop kit.
The reason I did this mod was becuase I wanted a little more lfit without having to use a body lift. And with the drop kit it left the t-bars hanging low under the belly of the pathfinder. As seen in this pic
Wth the set-up I was able to remove the torsion bars and gain some more break-over angle.
About the same time I decided on the mod for the rear links because my upper links were maxed out with the 7" lift I had. I followed the general idea in this thread
http://nissan4wheelers.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/885603133/m/83110436221
It had plenty of travel in the back now.
All the mods to this point had been for a project in school, so to test my pathfinder as a final product I headed out to Moab Utah for Easter Jeep Safari. The trip was awesome and the pathfinder did well but I did find some weekness in it. The rear suspension liked to unload going down hill, which mostly just made things a little more hair raising. I found that the just isnt suited to rock crawling, or at least not without much more work. So the whole time I was there I continually checked out other peoples trucks and watched how they worked. On the last day I pretxled the rear links in a dumb way, I had forgotten to build heavy duty ones.
Once I got home I decided an and new rear suspension would have to be built. The first thing I did was replace the old lower links with some beefy ones made out of .375 wall 2" tube with Johny joints.
Then I started on the front. I picked up a 44 axle from a waggoneer and cut all my off and started going from there. I moved the axle forward about 4" and gave myself enough room to easily stuff a 39" , at least away from the firewall.
I used a radius arm set-up to keep it as low as possible. All links, tierod and drag link are 1.75"x.375 DOM tubing. I used a steering box out of a 1989 toyota 4-runner because I could easly tapp it for hydro assist steering and becuase the nissan one was simply worn out. The 10" Fox coil-ovesr I had before were not long enough for what I wanted so I found a deal on some 14" Walker Evans coil-overs.
After a couple flex tests showed everythign was good I welded everthing up.
Then the axle got yanked and I built it with 5.13 gears, ARB locker, Yukon chromoly shafts, OX joints with super hubs. I also used hy-steer on this axle.
That leads me to today, I decided the ARB bumper was too big and hurt my approach angle so I sold it and I am working on a new mount.
I am better at answering questions so if you want to know more details just ask. All of this has been done in a one year time frame starting last november, so most of it is fresh.
I have heard rumors of a kit being availble in Germany, can anyone give more details about that?

Damn impressive
Absolutely crazy, nice and wonderful buildup
Do you have any more informations about the Evan Walker Coilover-Suspension-Shocks?
In Spring 2007, I´ll swap an 44 (even with Yukon Axle-Kit and stronger U-Joints) under my Jeep ZJ and I´m still not sure, which Coilover-system to choose.
Thanks a lot for the pics | _________________ Leben ist draußen. Denn wer das Abenteuer sucht, darf den Luxus nicht fürchten.

The Walker Evans are a little cheaper than the Fox, King, Sway-Away shocks. Mostly because the dual rate kit for the springs is included. Not too many people have Walker Evans stuff so I was kinda in the dark when I bought them. I found the qualitly to be OK, but the finish was not up to par with the Fox shocks I had before. It was mostly that the Heim joints appeared to be cheaper. However, the shocks work well on the street and trail once you get them tuned for your application. And the customer service at Walker Evans is excellent.
The only thing to remember that Walker Evans stuff maxes at 14" of travel, so if you have big plans and want 16 or 18" I recomend looking at Sway-Away shocks because they are the next cheapest. Because all these shocks are fully rebuildable I recomend deciding how much travel you want, and look for used shocks. Good way to save a little money.

I'm a little in doubt whether the Nissan crowd here at the forum can help you with your very fine buildup, I bet most of them could learn a lot out of the Photos above.....

The Jeep I´m currently buildung up, will primary be used for desert rallyes in Africa
So I don´t need so much travel. 14" should be enough.
Are the evan walker rebuildable too? I´m not sure, that "theese shocks" include or exclude the walkers in your last sentence
Do you now a good dealer for the Evans?
By the way - Here is my project: http://www.offroad-forum.de/viewtopic.php?t=8668
Edit: I agree SpeedyB - Think, we´ll learn from you, not in opposite | _________________ Leben ist draußen. Denn wer das Abenteuer sucht, darf den Luxus nicht fürchten.

As in rebuildable I was meaning all of the major shock names, Walker Evans, Fox, King, Sway-Away, Rancho and Bilstein.
The ZJ project is cool, I havent translated it yet. So long as you build a stout cage to tie in the suspension around the unibody you will be in good shape.

My translation of that was a little rough. The front of that pathfinder uses 3.5" lift early springs. He used coil buckets off of a . The radius arms are also off a .
In the back he used 5.5 lift springs.

I know - Hard work to do. Uniframe stiffening is a long job and weight have to be always in my mind, because every pound counts in sand. But a plan for the front already exists and is a construction, which connects the Upper Control-Arm-Mounts to the stock shock-Mount, via the spring-coil-dome to the front Bumper. This whole construction should split the impact-forces in a rallye wide over the uniframe and provide enough strength for the .
Hopefully... | _________________ Leben ist draußen. Denn wer das Abenteuer sucht, darf den Luxus nicht fürchten.
