Hi all, i suppose this is an old topic, but i can't find info.
I've got a Hyundai Terracan and i'm considering to buy a roof top tent in the next future, the problem is that this car has a sticker on the roof rails saying that you can't load more than 34kgs on them. However i've seen plenty of Terracan with roof racks or roof tents installed (especially in Germany). Do you know if they have somewhat reinforced the structure?

Hi Mattlodi,
Fellow Terracan driver here
In order to fit my roof top tent I've removed the original roof rails and mounted 1800mm universal tracks from Frontrunner by drilling few holes in the roof, using M8 screws and nuts and properly sealing the mounting points. All in all a bit of work but does the job. If you use rivet nuts, you don't even have to take the headliner off.
Cheers,

Hi,
Unfortunately I was too lazy to document the whole process of fitting the rails to the roof, but I've one picture with the original roof bars removed and another one I took yesterday underneath my tent.
If you want to see the proper way to fit those kind of rails to a Terracan roof, I can only recommend to join Facebook group named "Hyundai Terracan-Fahrer" and search for the word "Dachschienen". There is a really nice and detailed progress report on fitting the rail to the roof. It is all in German but the pictures speak for themselves and Google Translate should be feasible too.
Thanks for the comment on Hamburg! Which part of Italy are you from?

Yes indeed a gold mine when owning a Terracan! Gotta say that the community is super supportive and it made a huge different for me when working on the car.
I've spent quite some time in Bologna and Forlì for my studies and therefore came around in that region a bit. Still today one of my most favorite places to be! Also in great distance to some of fine spots in the western alps for some offroad wheeling and camping.
